Klaus Leibrecht prize – David Meyer
We are delighted to announce that David Meyer, a young investigator in the Schumacher Lab and member of the hashtagCRC1678, has been awarded the Klaus Liebrecht-Prize of the University of Cologne. This prestigious distinction recognizes outstanding doctoral theses within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and is considered one of the university’s most significant honors for early‑career researchers.
David Meyer receives the award for his pioneering work on biological aging clocks, a research field that is rapidly transforming our understanding of how aging processes unfold at the molecular level. His work provides new conceptual and computational frameworks for quantifying transcriptional instability in aging tissues, offering insights that may shape future approaches in aging research.
The Klaus Liebrecht-Prize, established in 1998 by engineer and philanthropist Klaus Liebrecht, honors exceptional scientific achievements and aims to encourage young researchers whose work demonstrates both excellence and societal relevance. Each year, two awardees are selected through a competitive, multi‑stage evaluation process involving faculty representatives and the Liebrecht family.
Receiving this award marks an important milestone in Dr. Meyer’s scientific career and highlights the strength of early‑career research within the CRC 1678. We warmly congratulate him on this well‑deserved recognition and look forward to his continued contributions to the field of aging research.
